Marcia has had a love affair with books and writing from early on. Her mother taught her to cherish books; her father encouraged her to write.
After several years as an art gallery director and artist representative in Washington, DC, Marcia moved to New York in 2000 and fell, quite serendipitously, into book promotion when she organized the New York launch of a friend’s book.
Over the years, Marcia has explored the tapestry of the international artistic
community and embraced story telling from various literary landscapes. She
recognizes the need for authors of diverse cultural heritages to reach larger
audiences and works tirelessly to develop new avenues for their work. She has hosted or planned bookparties around New York City for authors from a variety of genres, organized literary salons, and arranged author talks.
In 2004, Marcia combined her experiences running art galleries and representing artists with her event management and writing skills to form Marcia Mayne Book Publicity offering a menu of publicity services to help authors and publishers reach more readers and sell more books.
Two years later, she started Date with a Book, a book club which focuses on new and classic works from Caribbean and Caribbean Diaspora authors.
Marcia graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada and has completed graduate work in international development at the University of Ottawa’s Institute for International Development and Cooperation.
